Viewing style markup with MS Word

It can be difficult to identify formatting errors in manuscripts prepared using MS Word, since the markup is normally invisible. If your .doc file has been rejected as improperly formatted by the CinC PDF converter, it may be helpful to view the heading and paragraph styles using the method described here (also described in Word's on-line help):

  1. Open your .doc file in Word, and switch to normal view if you are in a different view.
  2. Open the Tools menu, select Options, and then click on the View tab.
  3. In the Style area width box under Outline and Normal options, enter a measurement for the width of the style area pane, for example, 1.2"
Word displays the style of each element of your manuscript in the style pane to the left of the document window, as in the example below.
